The Winchesters, Walker Independence limited to 13 episodes – Season 2?

The Winchesters and Walker’s independence will see their seasons capped at 13 episodes.

According to our sister site Deadline, the supernatural and walker Prequels won’t get backorders – although Season 2 renewals are still possible. The decision was made by the network’s new, Nexstar-appointed president, Dennis Miller, who opted against backorders for any first-year CW dramas (which would also include mid-season entry Gotham Knightswhich is still waiting for a premiere date).

Walker’s independence in the first four episodes he averaged 560,000 total viewers and a demo rating of 0.05 (in Live + Same Day numbers), showing decent retention from his father (who averages 730,000 and a 0.08). The delayed playback annoyed the “Windy” audience by around 83 percent.

The Winchesters, meanwhile, is averaging 600,000 and almost 0.1 in the first three episodes and as a self-starter on Tuesdays. DVR playback increases audience by 66 percent.

The fledgling CW network faces an uncertain fate: local TV giant Nexstar Media Group recently acquired a 75 percent stake, with plans to target older viewers and add low-cost, unscripted programming. The network’s longtime leader, Mark Pedowitz, left The CW shortly after the acquisition was completed.

The short-term news for The Winchesters and Walker’s independence follows the recent cancellations of two of The CW’s remaining scripted originals: DC’s Stargirl (ends with Season 3) and Nancy Drew (ends after season 4). Fellow Veterans The Lightning (Entering Season 9) and Riverdale (Entering Season 7) are also set to end next year – and according to Deadline, the list of final seasons is only likely to get longer.

Along with the Winchesters, Walker’s independence and entry into mid-season Gotham Knightsthe fates of All American, All American: Homecoming, Kung Fu, Superman & Lois and walkerbeyond the current broadcast season, stay in the air.
