‘The Witcher’ fandom dismayed by ‘Blood Origin’

As if Netflix wasn’t already in an awkward position with Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher Now in its third season, the latest spin-off show set in Andrzej Sapkowski’s fictional universe has picked the perfect time to ram home the increasingly nagging idea that the streaming juggernaut might not be the best choice for bringing Geralt’s story to life after all leading live action.

If you were to ask the showrunner, however, all is not lost The Witcherbecause season three will wash away all the bad blood between the show and its fandom.

The four-part limited series explored the creation of the first witcher and the cataclysmic event known as the Conjunction of the Spheres. But between bouts of inventive plot developments, origin of the blood also the stakes for the future of the main series. For one, everyone’s favorite bard Jaskier appears and learns of Geralt’s prophesied doom, while Avallac’h, the elf mage, travels forward in time and pursues a younger Ciri playing with her childhood friends in Cintra. Also, the Wild Hunt is in full swing, and Eredin will stop at nothing to place the child of Elder Blood in his hands. It’s almost exciting enough to make you forget the whole Henry Cavill fiasco.

The Wild Hunt, led by Eredin, is one of the story’s overarching antagonists. We’ll see them in first time of contemptas they suddenly swoop down from the sky trying to capture Ciri and later fight her The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so the fandom recognizes all too well the threat they pose to our main characters. Well, from what Lauren S. Hissrich recently revealed, the Wild Hunt is one thing the series wants to faithfully portray as we see it in the books, and the first instance of that will be in the upcoming third season.

In spite of The Witcher Crew repeatedly assuring fans that season three will be a faithful adaptation of the source material, they’ve only managed to ignite their ire by reconnecting almost everything we know about the history of the continent origin of the blood. From the conception of the first sorcerer, to the arrival of humans, to the concept of chaos magic, and even how the elves of the Aen Elle (including Wild Hunt) are portrayed, origin of the blood undermines everything we know about the world Geralt of Rivia inhabits, and as you’d expect, fans don’t take these blasphemous inventions lightly.

As of now, it appears that the entirety of Reddit has taken up arms origin of the bloodwhile the show maintains a score of 4/10 on IMDb and 2.2/5 on Google audience ratings, making it one of the worst attempts at adapting a fantasy story in the history of our medium.
