WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — Three families have been left homeless after a fire broke out in a multi-story building in Winter Haven Monday afternoon.

According to the Winter Haven Police Department, around 3:35 p.m. firefighters responded to a building fire on Ave. C SW dispatched

When first responders arrived, they found the fire was coming from the kitchen area of ​​an upstairs apartment unit. The building consisted of three units. Police said the fire was confined to the upper unit and responders were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other units.

At this time, authorities do not know what caused the fire. However, investigators will be on site to find the cause.

The Red Cross is also supporting the three displaced families.
