Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears accused of child sex abuse

A lawsuit alleges Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears recruited two children to perform sexually inappropriate acts for a comedy skit Through the Eyes of a Pedophile.

Comedians Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears face child sex abuse charges in new trial First revealed in a report in The Daily Beast, two anonymous plaintiffs allege that the comedians recruited them to perform lewd acts of a sexual nature as part of a series of comedy sketches filmed in 2013. The accusers, identified as John and Jane Doe, were seven and 14 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.

Haddish’s attorney, Andrew Brettler of Lavely & Singer, sent the following statement to IndieWire:

“The plaintiff’s mother … has been attempting to bring these false allegations against Ms Haddish for several years. Every solicitor who initially took her case – and there were several – eventually dropped the matter when it became clear the claims were unfounded and Ms Haddish would not be shaken. Now, [the mother] has her adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two will bear the consequences of this frivolous action together.”

In the statement, Haddish’s attorney revealed the surname of the accusers’ mother, which IndieWire will not disclose. Aries Spears representatives did not respond to IndieWire’s request for comment.

According to The Daily Beast, the siblings’ mother negotiated a settlement in 2019, but that agreement reportedly doesn’t bind Haddish or the siblings. The new lawsuit is not being filed by the mother, but by John and Jane Doe.

Jane Doe told Daily Beast reporter Laura Bradley: “As an adult I now have the power to protect my little brother and I have the power to do something about what happened to him. And that’s my goal. Just to show my little brother, ‘Hey, I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you and be there for you back then. But this is how I perform for you now.’”

According to the lawsuit, Spears and Haddish are charged with intentionally inflicting emotional distress, gross negligence, sexual violence, sexual harassment and sexual abuse on a minor. Haddish is also accused of negligent monitoring/failure to alert, breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud.

The two alleged victims are the children of one of Haddish’s former friends. The mother of the two siblings told The Daily Beast that she knew Haddish from the comedy scene, and the two women bonded over their shared experiences of difficult divorces. In 2013, Haddish shared with the family that she had found a “perfect role” for her daughter, Jane Doe, in a commercial she was directing.

The lawsuit alleges Haddish and Spears took Jane to a recording booth and asked her to watch video showing a group of women eating a sandwich and “moaning and making sexual noises as they both eat the sandwich.” ate sages that simulated the act of fellatio.” Spears then allegedly asked the 14-year-old girl to mimic what she saw in the video. Feeling uncomfortable with this, Jane fell silent until Haddish returned to the room and repeated the request.

“Haddish verbally explained what was expected of plaintiff Jane Doe,” the complaint reads. “And then showed plaintiff Jane Doe how to give fellatio, including the movements, sounds, moans and moans.”

“I tried to mimic what they wanted me to mimic but it still came out super uncomfortable,” Jane told The Daily Beast. “As I walked out of the booth, I knew I hadn’t done what they wanted me to do.”

Jane was paid $100 for the shoot, according to The Daily Beast, and never spoke about the experience. A year later, Haddish reached out to the mother about filming another video with her seven-year-old son. The two children were again sent on a film shoot under the supervision of Haddish and Spears. The video in question ended up being a comedy skit titled “Through the Eyes of a Pedophile.”

The Daily Beast watched the sketch, which stars Haddish as the boy’s guardian who leaves him in the care of a pedophile played by Spears. The video is said to primarily show the seven-year-old boy in his underwear or naked while Spears pretends to glare at him eerily. At one point the camera zooms in on John Doe’s crotch. The video ends with the text “LOOK WHO YOU LEAVE YOUR KIDS!”.

The lawsuit states that by the end of filming, “Mr. Doe called his mom crying and said he didn’t want to film anymore.”

The video was posted to multiple online platforms, including’s UGC section. In a statement to The Daily Beast, a representative for Funny or Die said the site found the video “absolutely disgusting”… We were not involved in the conception, development, funding or production of this video. It was uploaded to the site as user-generated content and immediately removed in 2018 after learning of its existence.”

Jane Doe, who attended filming but was told to stay in the basement, told The Daily Beast that she remembered seeing her brother cry after filming wrapped.

“When that happened, the only thing I could feel was what I was feeling in my video with Tiffany,” Jane said. “I didn’t know at the time if something like that happened to him [what had] happened to me, but I just felt like something wasn’t right in that moment.”

The mother contacted Haddish upon seeing her son’s reaction, but the comedian gave little information about the incident.

“[Haddish] said something along the lines of, ‘I don’t think acting is for him,'” she told the publication. “And I’m like… What the hell do you mean, ‘acting isn’t for him?’ my son is crying For example, what’s going on?

The mum said she spent a week getting the footage of Spears and Haddish. She said she never knew what was filmed until four years later when an article describing the racy sketch was published on gossip website Bossip.

“To find out she broke such a sacred trust,” the mother said of Haddish. “I entrusted my children to her.”
