Police and schools in England have reportedly warned parents about videos featuring a dark figure that their children may be watching without their knowledge.
“Huggy Wuggy” is a character from the horror video game 2021 poppy playtime But the character starred in popular fan videos shared on TikTok and YouTube. The character seems to escape the attention of parents, who don’t assume anything sinister from the name. A popular YouTube edit even features the character in a scene from a children’s TV show Peppa Pig.
poppy playtime was created by MOB Games and is a horror survival game. Huggy Wuggy is one of the main villains and appears as a furry blue monster with razor sharp teeth.
According to police and schools, a significant number of young children watched videos featuring the character, including some rather dark scenes.
This was announced by a spokesman for the Dorset police DorsetLive: “The blue bear-like figure has long arms and rows of razor-sharp teeth.
“Set in an abandoned toy factory, Huggy is an in-game villain who pursues players from chimneys and unreachable places. Videos of the game are available on YouTube, with other clips dedicated to Huggy in songs.
“One song has the lyrics, ‘I could hug you here forever until you take your last breath together.'”

Dorset Police Cyber Protection Officer Chris Conroy said: “There are videos that people have made, songs that people have made and they’re popping up all over YouTube and TikTok and using these pretty graphic images of this bear-like character with razor sharp teeth. It’s based on jump scares and things we certainly don’t want kids to be exposed to.”
Conroy added, “If you even use YouTube kids, for example, it may happen that there’s nothing obviously sinister in the name of the video. It really comes down to paying attention to what your kids are doing and making sure they aren’t just trusting YouTube Kids videos, it’s safe because unfortunately, with videos like this, things fall through the cracks.”
Police also said children are reenacting scenes from the video game at the playground and hugging before whispering to each other about Huggy Wuggy’s dark lines.
Parents expressed concern after finding out their children had been watching the videos online without their knowledge.
“All the kids are talking about it and showing each other these videos, it’s become a craze that’s growing in popularity,” said one parent. “It’s extremely concerning because this character is really scary and quite frankly terrifying. It almost becomes the online version of this killer clown madness.”
Another added: “I believe it’s accessible on Youtube and it’s really scary that as a parent this Huggy Wuggy sneaked under my radar and infiltrated my child’s mind without my even noticing. Now I feel really silly for not listening more carefully to what my son was telling me and realizing the violence this character represents.
“Kids want to play Huggy Wuggy’s games, they talk about it in the playground. It’s really scary as many parents won’t realize the level of violence our children are subjected to.
“We need help and awareness because it’s scary how it stays under the radar. I think I’m pretty conscious of what I’m allowing [my son] be exposed, but when it happens in conversations on the playground, I think parents and schools need to be more vigilant.”
