We’re one step closer to the sequel to Dennis Villeneuve’s 2021 epic dune as the film’s star has hinted that filming has wrapped.
Lead actor Timothée Chalamet posted a picture from the film’s set on Instagram with the caption, “dune 2 Wrapped up.”
With this message it sets dune in a good place on its timeline to hit theaters on November 3, 2023. In fact, the film’s October release date was brought forward by two weeks. Production for the sequel began in July and ran for nearly six months across multiple locations including Budapest, Italy, Abu Dhabi and more.
The iconic story of dune was written by Frank Herbert and the latest attempt to be brought to the screen comes from legendary director Denis Villeneuve in 2021. The film, which appears to have wrapped production today, is a sequel to this film that picks up right there where things left off.
“This follow-up film will explore the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen as he embarks on a warpath of vengeance against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Choosing between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he tries to avert a horrific future that only he can foresee.”
When it started dune was universally acclaimed for its stunning visual effects, impressive cast, and generally as the best attempt yet at adapting Frank Herbert’s work. New stars will join the series in the sequel, including Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler and Souhelia Yacoub.
