Wordl became one of the most popular daily online puzzles online shortly after its release in 2021, with millions trying to crack the five-letter word of the day.
Software developer Josh Wardle released his project online in late 2021 after perfecting the game during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The game, a game bearing Wardle’s name, was originally developed for his partner Palak Shah, who loved puzzles.
The game became a hit and was acquired by The New York Times Company earlier this year for an undisclosed sum.
Millions play the game daily, drawn by its simple formula: crack a five-letter word in six tries or fewer by following a color-coded grid system, although generally, the fewer tries it takes to get the final answer, the better.
A letter that is in the correct position will color a tile green, while a letter that is in the answer but is in the wrong position will color a tile yellow. Finally, if you select a letter that’s wrong overall, meaning it’s not part of, the tile will turn gray Wordl of the day at all.
Wardle previously told news week that he liked the idea of ”everyone around the world trying to solve the exact same word at the same time”.
He said: “It created a shared community experience [If] There were several puzzles to solve and each one was at a different stage then there wouldn’t be this type of conversation, which I think is the most fulfilling part of Wordle.
