It was only played by a few dozen people a day after its release in late 2021, but then became an online sensation, attracting and eventually being acquired by millions of regular players The New York Times for an unknown sum.
eager Wordl The aim of the players is to guess the word of the day in as few attempts as possible and keep it Wordl winning streak.
But the limited number of guesses available means that good strategy is crucial to avoid using up all six tries in vain.
“One thing I think is important in this game is the seed word you choose,” said Erhan Aslan, Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Reading in the UK news week.
“It can be helpful to start with words that contain commonly used vowels (e.g. e, a), consonants (e.g. r, t) and phonetic sequences. For example, choosing a word that begins with q, z, j, or x might not be the best choice.
“If you get more feedback after a few guesses, users will have to resort to some knowledge of phonetics to narrow down or eliminate some words they might be thinking of. For example, if the second letter of the target word is L (indicated by green ) and the player feels that the word starts with a consonant, they need to know that there are few consonant cluster possibilities (e.g. bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl).”
