Trump declares his January 6 actions peaceful and patriotic

Former President Donald Trump spent Thanksgiving night on Truth Social accusing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of conducting a witch hunt against him for his actions around January 6, 2021.

Trump has been the subject of countless investigations in recent months. At the height of the committee’s hearings on Jan. 6, Trump was subpoenaed to release documents related to his activities related to the US Capitol riot, at which point he responded by filing a lawsuit against the committee. He is also under investigation by the DOJ for classified documents discovered during a search of his Mar-a-Lago home. New York Attorney General Letitia James has also accused Trump and his real estate company of fraud.

The numerous investigations are not slowing down the former president, who recently announced his campaign for the 2024 presidential race.

In a Truth Social post Thursday night, Trump wrote that he “didn’t do anything wrong on January 6.” called the attack on the nation’s Capitol peaceful and patriotic.

As of January 6, 2021, Insider reported that more than 950 people have been charged with crimes committed during the siege. CNN reported that five people died during the pro-Trump insurgency, which grew as Congress was set to certify Democrat Joe Biden as the next president. Many rioters believed the election was stolen.

Truth Social’s post has been overloaded with other information. Trump also called an investigation into his actions a “manipulated fraud” and called the DOJ and FBI “corrupt.” The agencies conducted the search of Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., in August. More than 300 unique secret documents were found at the resort, according to reports from CNN.

“The so-called investigation of me by a radical left-wing prosecutor totally controlled by Eric Holder and Obama is a MANIPULATED FRAUD. The ‘Justice’ department and FBI are CORRUPT, in fact they offered Christopher Steele $1,000,000 to lie, he told Facebook that Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation when they knew it wasn’t, and Paid people to “get Trump.” Did nothing wrong on Jan 6th (peaceful and patriotic) or with documents (check out past presidents),” read the Truth Social post in its entirety.

The message received nearly 6,500 likes at press time. Trump followed the message with a much shorter reading, “WITCH HUNT!!!” which garnered 3,800 likes within 30 minutes of posting.

Trump has been using “witch hunt” rhetoric for years.

In a previous Truth Social post on Thanksgiving night, Trump said it was “almost impossible” to make a fair decision because he was a Republican.
