Trump’s ‘big announcement’ sends Bannon to brink: ‘I can’t do this’

Gorka shook his head in agreement as Bannon denounced the video, before agreeing that the announcement “never should have happened” and urged anyone who “got the idea” to fire it.

“Whoever wrote this, this pitch, should be fired,” Gorka said. “And should never be involved in anything… I don’t want them making the presidential napkins for Mar-a-Lago… anyone who made that up.”

“If you’re going to do stuff like that, have a peon do it,” he added. “Get someone recognized in the MAGA world to face this cause and do it. But the President should not be involved.”

Gorka also criticized Trump’s current close advisers for not preventing the announcement, saying, “At the very least, Kash Patel or anyone in their right mind should say, ‘Guys, can you guys hold off on the Superman cartoons until we get some free speech again?’ “

Trump’s Truth Social post teasing the “big announcement” on Wednesday had sparked speculation about a variety of possible announcements affecting his political career, including everything from his election as vice president to a run for speaker of the House of Representatives.

Bannon and his guests were far from the only prominent Conservatives to blast the former president for Thursday’s unveiling.

Trump loyalist Robby Starbuck, a former GOP congressional candidate, tweeted that the announcement “isn’t the kind of fight people want to see now,” adding that it “puts a lot off.”

Other conservatives, such as former congressional adviser Daniel Bostic, described the announcement as “a hit in the face to Trump’s base.”

Some suggested the move could benefit Trump’s potential 2024 GOP challenger Ron DeSantis. Although the Florida governor has yet to announce a presidential bid, he has already led Trump in several recent primaries.
