Trump’s Truth Social platform is filing a massive $1.5 billion lawsuit against MSNBC, Axios, Reuters and 17 other media companies
Truth Social, the social media platform linked to former President Donald Trump, announced a massive, multibillion-dollar lawsuit against 20 news media companies.
The company Posted a statement on his lawsuit on Monday evening.
“Today, Truth Social filed a defamation lawsuit that is likely unprecedented in history, spanning twenty publications—and there could be more. They all posted the same false information about Truth Social and refused to fully retract their stories,” the statement said.
“To the fake news media who are thinking about responsibility: see you in court,” it continued.
Some of the companies named in the lawsuit included MSNBC, Axios, Reuters, The Daily Beast, Newsweek, Mediaite, Daily Mail and CNBC. They are accused of participating in a “seemingly coordinated” media campaign to report that Truth Social had lost $73 million.
“This number was a complete fabrication,” the lawsuit states.
The company further claims that it requested a correction and retraction from the media, but none of them fully complied or apologized. The lawsuit says the false reports impaired the company’s ability to raise funds for a planned merger.
“Existing and potential investors alike were concerned about the false stories,” the lawsuit says.
The lawsuit says the number cited by the news outlets was not included in the SEC filings, which were readily available to each news outlet.
The lawsuit seeks $1.5 billion and legal fees from the defendants.
Also on Monday, tech billionaire Elon Musk filed what he called a “thermonuclear” defamation lawsuit against Media Matters, the left-wing activist organization. The liberal group successfully pressured companies to run their ads on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, based on a report that claimed their ads appeared next to posts from white supremacists.
Musk denied the report and accused Media Matters of falsifying data to harm his company.
“The discovery and the testimony will be wonderful to see,” he said.
