Loaded with the medical equipment she needed Thursday, nurse Kei Martin and a medical technician were dispatched to her first patient of the day.
Having medical information on the go and on the phone sped up the whole process.
This urgent at-home medical care provided by DispatchHealth is in partnership with UCI Health.
Martin, the clinical director for the Orange County program, said they serve both the insured and the uninsured.
DispatchHealth had a presence in 43 states and arrived in Orange County last November, its first location in California.
Viral diseases and infections are just some of the acute conditions these teams treat seven days a week for patients from the age of three months to the elderly.
“We’re also seeing high-level illnesses, injuries, illnesses that people would normally go to an emergency room for,” Martin said. “We just don’t see things that threaten life and limb, such as a stroke or a heart attack.”
Martin said this helps free up space in emergency rooms and gives healthcare providers a better idea of how their patients’ environments are affecting their health.
Yoshika Tuttle is a working single mother of two who tried the service for the first time on Thursday.
Tuttle said she was happy with her experience.
“Super handy, I worked until they knocked on the door,” she said. “They came in, didn’t last more than, I think it was like 15 to 20 minutes. In my own home, comfortable clothes… these two ladies were super professional and amazing.”
The service accepts multiple insurance providers and Medicare.
