UPDATED 7:40 p.m. EST: Texas Law Enforcement updated the death toll from the shooting in Uvalde at 22, including 18 students, 3 teachers and the suspect.
The gunman was identified as 18-year-old Salvador Romas, a high school student. Police said he shot his grandmother before attempting to escape police and crash his vehicle. Then he is said to have run into the school and shot innocent people.

At least 15 people, including 14 children and a teacher, were killed in a mass shooting at a Texas elementary school, according to Governor Greg Abbott.
The harrowing incident happened Tuesday afternoon at Robb Elementary School in the small town of Uvalde, which is about 80 miles west of San Antonio.
Uvalde’s Mayor Don McLaughlin
told Fox News said the shooting started about a block from Robb Elementary, but the shooter then ran to the school. According to another report, the suspect had barricaded himself inside.
An active shooter situation was reported and the school was placed on hold until law enforcement was able to subdue the suspect about an hour later.
A spokesman for Uvalde Memorial Hospital
Approved told CNN that two of the children had died and that they received 13 children with various injuries from the shooting.
called A 45-year-old man was also treated for being grazed by a bullet.
A business owner near the school
told 1200 News Radio that he saw the suspect in a shootout with law enforcement officers – including the Border Patrol. He said he also saw children being evacuated from the school through the windows.
Officials later said the suspect was an 18-year-old man and had died. Several law enforcement officers called that police were trying to apprehend a murder suspect as he ran into the elementary school.
