Mindy Kaling’s version of Velma Dinkley will be hitting your screens early in the new year.
HBO Max quietly announced Tuesday as part of a major What’s New in January release that its adult animated comedy series, telling the origin story of Velma (voiced by Kaling), will air on Thursday, January 12 will premiere.
To update: Two episodes will be released each week, TVLine has confirmed; Season 1 consists of 10 episodes in total.
This reimagining of the long-running animated franchise celebrates “the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang” and promises to “uncover the complex and colorful past of one of America’s favorite mystery-solvers.”
While Kaling the title character Glenn Howerton (it’s always sunny in Philadelphia), Sam Richardson (veep) and Constance Wu (degrees off the boat) will voice Fred, Shaggy, and Daphne respectively
Velma‘s full voice cast, which was revealed at New York Comic-Con in October, also boasts Jane Lynch (joy), Wanda Sykes (The other two), Russell Peters (life in pieces), Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Stephen Root (barry)…. Gary Cole (NCIS), Ken Leung (Industry), Cherry Jones (Transparent), Fortune Feimster (kenan) and Yvonne Orji (Unsure)…. Sarayu Blue (I have never), Nicole Byer (Big team), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of SHIELD), Shay Mitchell ♥ (Little lying beasts) and Debby Ryan (Insatiable)…. and Kulap Vilaysak (Bob’s burger), “Weird Al” Yankovic, NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns and Scooby Doo Old master Frank Welker.
