[VIDEO] ‘Outlander’ Season 7 Trailer and Release Date

is stranger‘s prophetic Ye Olde Newspaper Clipping of Doom about to arrive?

The signs are pointing to “possibly,” which is hinted at in the just-released teaser trailer of the Starz historical drama.

Those who have been watching the show for a while will recall that a few seasons ago, Roger and Brianna became aware of news from a colonial newspaper of their parents’ deaths in a fire at their North Carolina home. And in the video above, it really does appear that Claire and other Fraser’s Ridge residents are scooping up water to stave off a conflagration.

The inclusion of the fire in Season 7 – which the trailer tells us will premiere in summer 2023 and piggyback on star Sam Heughan’s hint in early December – would make sense; it was one of the events in Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book, A touch of snow and ash, which didn’t make it into the condensed season 6 of the Starz series. Plus: Wendigo Donner, who plays a central role in the subplot, showed up in the season 5 finale in a moment when he’s missed. (Refresh yourself with a full synopsis here.)

The video above also shows: Jamie telling Claire about a dream, Claire being put in a noose around her neck, Brianna possibly giving birth to a child, a funeral procession and a very angry looking young Ian.

Season 7 will feature the recast of a popular character: Kristin Atherton (Doctors, Waterloo Road) takes on the role of Jamie’s sister Jenny Murray, a role played by Laura Donnelly (The Nevers). The season, which showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said will “revive some of our favorite characters in different times and places,” will also see the return of Graham McTavish (who plays Dougal MacKenzie), Nell Hudson (Laoghaire Fraser ) and include Steven Cree (the older Ian Murray), Lotte Verbeek (Geillis Duncan), Andrew Whipp (Brian Fraser) and Layla Burns (Joan MacKimmmie).

Also Charles Vandervaart (Lost in Space) will join the cast as William Ransom, Jamie’s adult son.

The show will also introduce several new characters including: Rachel Hunter, a Quaker (played by Izzy Meikle-Small, Ripperstr); her brother dr. Denzell Hunter (played by Joey Phillips, doctors); Mercy Woodcock, a free black woman in colonial America (played by Gloria Obianyo, dune); Rob Cameron, a new friend of Brianna and Roger (played by Chris Fulton, Bridgeton); Benedict Arnold, the notorious traitor (played by Rod Hallett, The Last Kingdom); Buck MacKenzie, Dougal MacKenzie’s bastard son, with Geillis Duncan, who is also Roger’s ancestor (played by Diarmaid Murtagh, viking) – and played by McTavish in a cameo in Season 5.
