Warning: The following contains Thursday’s spoilers walker Premiere. Proceed at your own risk!

A kidnapped Cordell ended up with unexpected company walker‘s season 3 premiere.

The Texas Ranger spent the episode being mentally and physically tormented by his captors, leading him to turn to his dead wife, Emily, for advice. Cordell remained strong throughout, but the familiar face that greeted him in the final moments of the lesson could break that resolve, as now his brother Liam is also being held captive.

Below, Star/Executive Producer Jared Padalecki previews how Liam’s kidnapping will spur Cordell into action and how changed Cordell will emerge from this ordeal.

TVLINE | What can you say about who these guys are and what they hope to achieve by breaking Cordell? They appear to be much more powerful and tactical than some of the previous enemies he has faced.
Walker Season 3 Jared PadaleckiWalker trusts himself and he knows he’s capable and he knows he’s tough and he knows he’s had the training to handle situations like this. I think what they’re trying to prove is something like, “Hey, if we’re powerful enough to kidnap you and break you, just think about what we can do to someone that’s not you, yours.” who doesn’t have training, who doesn’t have your experience, who doesn’t have your courage and your history.” I think that’s part of it. And they also want to point out, to a degree, that as important as Walker is to keep the peace, if even Walker can be broken, then who can’t be broken? They would love to break me and then build me back up to be like them, and I think they’ll find that Cordell Walker is a little bit harder than they expected. But everyone has a breaking point, right, and they’re hoping to find it so they can fix it, and then I’m counting on them now.

TVLINE | It’s a bit of a mind game, not just physically.
Yes, mind game and physical game. So they combine all aspects to ultimately get what they want.

TVLINE | Did Liam get kidnapped on purpose to get at Walker? Or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time looking for Walker?
He certainly did Not want to be kidnapped. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Our villains, they prove to Walker, like, “Hey, we can’t just come to you, we can come to your family,” even though by now they all know I’m in a bad situation. Like, “Hey, that’s us the Well. If we can reach you and your brother, we can probably reach your children as well. We can probably reach your parents, we can probably reach your partners.” So I think it’s part of their big plan. But Liam was certainly hoping to help find his brother, Not find him alone. [Laughs]

Walker preview Jared PadaleckiTVLINE | Now that Liam is in this situation with Walker, how will Walker feel about it? is he angry Is there a sense of relief that at least someone knows where they are, even if that person is also trapped with them?
More than anger or relief, I think it’s just concern. I think Walker, especially in the first episode when we find him, has resigned himself to being there as long as it takes. He won’t break down, he’ll take care of the torture, he’ll take care of the mind games. He’s been through it before. And when his brother shows up, he now says: “Oh, shit, a clock is ticking. It doesn’t get any better with me in here, with us in here.” Walker can handle physical pain and mind games, but he doesn’t want to deal with the same things that happen to the people he loves. So that takes his urgency up a notch, so he realizes, “Hey, I have to do something, and I have to do it now.”

TVLINE | We’ve seen Walker go through trauma and dangerous situations before, but this is on another level. So if he eventually comes out of it, however he comes out of it, how will this ordeal change him as he progresses?
We’ve seen Walker go through a lot, and when he lost Emily, who we look back on in Season 1, we’ve seen how he kind of escaped and tried to avoid it. And then we saw Walker realize how his avoidance and absence affected his family. So he doesn’t want to make the same mistake. That doesn’t mean he won’t make another kind of mistake… When he enlisted, he knew whether he was in the Marines or now in law enforcement, his life was in danger. He has a target on his back and he accepts that to a certain extent. But now that it’s much clearer that his job and lifestyle has put his family and loved ones at risk, he’s going to struggle a bit with how to make everyone feel better and safer, and we’ll see it in a kind of spiral in a different direction.
