WEATHERABLE: Idalia is stepping up to Category 4 Storm

Columbus, Georgia (WRBL)-We are weather conscious Early Wednesday morning Hurricane Idalia is strengthening into a Category 4 hurricane. Idalia is expected to make landfall later this morning as a Category 3 storm with winds up to 100 miles per hour. Storm surges of up to 18 feet are expected in some areas of Big Bend today as the storm pulls through.
As Idalia moves northeast, models show hurricane strength (Category 2) through South Georgia is maintained. Gusts of up to 95 miles per hour are being experienced in many southeastern counties. While Idalia weakens, it will still be a tropical storm when it reaches South Carolina.
Schley, Sumter and Taylor counties are under one tropical storm warning until Saturday. Today most of us are staying dry but eastern/southeast counties will see some outer rain bands and gusts up to 45mph.
After crossing Idalia conditions will be cooler and drier for most of the week with temperatures in the 80’s/low 90’s.
