That Addams family spin off Wednesday was an instant hit, but how much a hit was wasn’t really known until now. It turns out it’s so big, it’s tied even Netflix’s biggest show: stranger things.
Netflix said the show has seen the most hours of any English-language show on the platform. This number? It’s 341.2 million. That’s about 38,949 years in case anyone was wondering.
The show also has the distinction of being the number one show in 83 different countries. The only other show that does that? stranger things 4. There’s just something about Jenny Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams that caught the world’s attention, and it’s paid off tremendously for Netflix.
The entire team behind the show, including director Tim Burton, also did an incredible job and that made a difference as well. Wednesday is such a fun character and audiences are in love with her many “quirks,” one of which is that she never blinks.
Early on in the character’s development process, Burton decided that the character not blinking would make her seem more sinister. Ortega continued today and explains what happened.
“She doesn’t blink,” Jenna told the morning show. “[Tim] like it when I tilt my chin down and look through my eyebrows, like a Kubrick look, and then relax all the muscles in my face.”
For those who don’t know, the Kubrick look refers to the evil eye that director Stanley Kubrick has his characters inflicted in films such as The glow and A clockwork orange. Apparently the preparation was worth it, because the show is a real hit.
Wednesday is currently streaming on Netflix.
