Black Adam, also known as Teth-Adam, is an immortal being dedicated to protecting his homeland of Kahndaq 5,000 years before the film’s main events.

The character is resurrected in the modern day to find that the Middle Eastern city is now under mercenary rule, and so he essentially picks up where he left off.

From the start, it’s clear that Black Adam is not to be trifled with, and his powers are so impressive that he’s even caught the eye of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), who sends the Justice Society of America (JSA) to stop him.

In the DC comics, Black Adam has powers attributed to various Egyptian gods, so he has the endurance of Shu, speed of Horus, strength of Amon, wisdom of Zehuti, strength of Aten, and courage of Mehen.

In short, this means that he is super strong, super fast, super powerful, has superhuman stamina, and is also able to feed himself, making him essentially immortal.

But that’s not all, because the antihero can also fly, do magic, has superhuman knowledge, clairvoyance. He can hypnotize people, is telepathic, and invulnerable to most attacks.

In the comics, Black Adam’s powers are first bestowed by Shazam, the wizard who gave Billy Batson his powers Shazam! In the film, the antihero gets his powers from ancient gods.

With powers like these, it’s no wonder Johnson has made it clear that he’s interested in Black Adam taking on Henry Cavill’s Superman.

In conversation with cinema blend, Johnson said he was “absolutely” keen to see Black Adam fight Superman, adding, “That’s the whole point of this man.”

He continued, “I’ve been saying for a while that a new era is about to begin in the DC Universe. And what I meant by that was the introduction of a brand new character. It is not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was… you know, Black Adam!

“Two years ago, the world had no idea who he was. We knew it, but not the rest of the crowd out there. The introduction of the JSA, the introduction of this new era of the DC Universe. But also, what did I really mean by that, “This is a new era in the DC Universe,” listen to the fans. Listen to the fans. And does our best to give the fans what they want.

“And maybe, at some point — and I’ve been through that in pro wrestling — you can’t always give them what you want. But you’ll always know we’re listening. And in this case with what you and I are talking about, I’ve been listening and have wanted to reach out to the fans for years. Because I’ve been waiting for someone to show up and talk to the fans and say, ‘Hey, we hear you.'”

Black Adam is in theaters now.
