When will the postponed ‘FBI’ season finale air?

FBI was scheduled to air the season 4 finale Tuesday on CBS. However, the network decided to withdraw the episode after a shooting at a Texas elementary school that same day killed 19 children and two adults.

The CBS show’s finale had a plot that might have been felt as insensitive after the real-life events. According to the episode synopsis, FBI Season 4 Episode 22 (titled “Prodigal Son”) featured a college student involved in “a fatal robbery collecting a cache of automatic weapons for the killers”.

The Season 4 finale likely ended on a cliffhanger that ushered in the next season, so fans are eager to see the episode when it feels more appropriate to watch.

Per The Hollywood Reporterit is currently not clear if the episode will ever air on CBS. diversitymeanwhile wrote that “a new air date for the finale has yet to be determined,” suggesting it will eventually air, though CBS hasn’t announced when.

CBS will air reruns of FBI until at least the end of June and could theoretically replace any of those episodes with that last remaining original episode or air the episode after the announced rerun schedule. Alternatively, CBS could shelve the episode entirely and re-edit or simply write around the parts relevant to Season 5’s plot in its premiere.

However, the network is unlikely to announce what it’s doing with the episode for the time being, for the same reasons that the season finale was pulled in the first place.

This isn’t the first time a TV show has had to be shut down because of a school shooting. For example, after filming at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012, episodes of family Guy and american father have been removed due to sensitive content. Those episodes eventually aired the following week.

The TV heather The restart had to be delayed twice in 2018 after mass shootings, the first time after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla. in February, and again after the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in October. The episodes never aired on Paramount but can now be viewed online.

Other shows that have been postponed over the years include Hannibal (In 2013), Mister Robot (in 2015) and Protect (in 2016).

This phenomenon has become ubiquitous – no wonder, since there have been more school shootings in the 21st century than in the entire 20th century. Between 2009 and 2018 there were at least 180 school shootings. There have been 27 school shootings in the United States so far in 2022.

In 2017, comedian Jerrod Carmichael opened up about the practice of censoring content following school shootings following an episode of The Carmichael Show focused on gun violence was shut down after an attack on the Congressional Baseball Game in Alexandria, Virginia.

“When things like this happen and someone wants to talk about it in a newspaper that’s not in the news, people will say ‘too soon,'” Carmichael continued Chelsea. “But when isn’t it too early? These things happen all the time.”
