Whittier Elementary School has been temporarily placed on lockdown following reports of gunshots and a car crash nearby

WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) — A Whittier elementary school was placed under temporary closure on Friday as authorities searched for two potentially armed suspects involved in a reported shooting and car accident near campus.

The incident began with a report of possible gunfire and a car crash just before 11am

California Highway Patrol officers were at the scene of a crashed vehicle off the westbound exit of the SR-60 Crossroads Parkway.

Footage from AIR7 showed a vehicle that appeared to have at least one bullet hole in the windshield.

Authorities searched the area for two suspects who may be armed. They fled the scene of the crime.

The location is not far from the Wallen L. Anders School in Whittier, which was closed down during the early stages of the response and search for the suspects.

The lockdown was lifted in the early afternoon.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

This is an evolving story. Details will be added as they become available.
