Who is attending the G7 summit in 2022? Every leader who participates

The group of 7 major economies will gather in the Bavarian Alps this weekend, bringing together leaders from members Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US to discuss the world’s most pressing political and economic issues .

Since the 1970s, the countries of the world’s largest developed economies have met regularly to address the crucial global economic and political challenges of the time, such as climate change, rising inflation and the war in Ukraine. The G7 members last met in Brussels in March to discuss the conflict.

Germany is hosting the G7 this year, and the summit will take place June 26-28 at Schloss Elmau, a five-star hotel and palace near the Austrian border, about 100km south of Munich.

The host of this year’s summit is Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who warned in March that the Ukraine war “must not make us as the G7 neglect our responsibility for global challenges such as the climate crisis or the pandemic”. He said those original goals will actually gain in importance during the war that has killed thousands, displaced millions and caused a global food crisis.

The G7 has repeatedly committed itself to democracy, human rights and the rule of law, as well as prosperity and sustainable development. The German G7 Presidency will focus on issues such as sustainability, recovery from the pandemic, setting the course for economic stability and strengthening alliances to promote social justice, equality and inclusive digitization.

Among those attending the summit is Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who, according to the Canadian government, will also be attending the June 28-30 NATO summit in Spain.

From the USA, President Joe Biden and his Secretary of State Antony Blinken take part in the summit of heads of state and government in Germany.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to tell G7 leaders to step up their support for Ukraine amid fears Western allies may feel “war fatigue” as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nearly enters its fifth month goes. The Telegraph reported.

Also present will be Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, will also be present.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will also attend, although the Asian country is not a G7 member.

Widodo, who is also chairing the G20 this year, will meet with leaders from Russia and Ukraine in the days following the summit in Bavaria to promote peace and try to ease the burden of the global food crisis, especially in low-income countries.

The Indonesian President will travel to the Ukrainian and Russian capitals after attending the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said on Wednesday.

In April, Indonesian President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj invited to the G20 summit in November on the holiday island of Bali.
