Episode 7 of The stairs is out now and once again the name Dennis Rowe has popped up. Rowe first appeared at the beginning of the series as a guest of Kathleen Peterson at Michael Peterson’s fundraiser.
He is later questioned by police as a man with whom Michael Peterson may have had a sexual relationship. At the time, prosecutors are trying to determine whether Michael’s sexuality and Kathleen’s discovery of his affairs with men could have given him motive for killing her on December 9, 2001.
In the seventh episode, titled “Seek and Ye Shall,” it is revealed that Dennis Rowe was found dead at his home three years later, with injuries similar to those of Kathleen Peterson.

Who is Dennis Rowe?
Dennis Rowe – played by Morgan Henard in The stairs-was a formal dress designer and manufacturer of luxury cushions under the name of H. Coulston Designs.
Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Rowe graduated from Duke University with a degree in English.
He was a childhood friend of Kathleen Peterson, both of whom lived on the same block in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Before his death in 2004, he worked in technical support for the US Postal Service and, according to his obituary, was an antique collector, art enthusiast, and musician.
Rowe was connected to the Michael Peterson case as he was once believed to be one of his lovers. He had admitted to District Attorney Jim Hardin that he once slept with Michael in a sex shop.
He was also able to provide a list of names of men with whom Peterson was also sexually involved, including a man named Tyrone Lacour.

At Peterson’s 2003 trial, prosecutors argued that he killed Kathleen Peterson after she learned of his bisexuality. However, Michael denied these claims, insisting that Kathleen had known about his sexuality all along. Michael Peterson’s version of events surrounding his sex life was supported by his brother and ex-wife Patricia, who also said they knew about Michael’s sexual relationships with men.
Speak with news week, Michael Peterson’s attorney, David Rudolf, stated that Michael Peterson has always denied having any sexual relations with Dennis Rowe.
Rudolf explained: “He [Dennis Rowe] was someone we had heard rumors going around saying that he was having some sort of sexual relationship with Michael or events involving Michael.
“Michael has always absolutely denied that and we have never been able to confirm it in any way. Well, Michael has told us he’s had these kinds of exchanges with other people, but he’s always denied anything about Dennis Rowe.”
He added, “I don’t think Dennis Rowe really had much to do with the outcome of the trial or the progression of the case.”
In the end, Michael Peterson was found guilty of the murder of his wife Kathleen and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was released on bail pending a retrial in 2011 and filed an Alford plea in 2017.
As part of the plea, he maintained his innocence but admitted the evidence against him would likely lead to a guilty verdict.
What happened to Dennis Rowe?
Unfortunately, on November 23, 2004, Dennis Rowe was killed at his home. At the time of his death he was 42 years old.
According to that Durham Herald-Sun newspaper, Rowe had been beaten and stabbed to death. His body was found in a trash can, his hands bound with duct tape.
As seen in… The stairs On HBO Max, Rowe’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. It was also noted that he had injuries similar to those of Kathleen Peterson. Most notably, Rowe had sustained head injuries but no fractured skulls, raising suspicions that their murders were linked.
In the end, however, no connection was ever made between the two deaths.
Rowe’s roommate Tyrone Joseph Lacour was a suspect in his murder. During Peterson’s trial, Rowe had told investigators that Lacour was one of the men with whom Michael Peterson may have had a sexual relationship.
He was arrested for Rowe’s murder in 2006 after two years on the run.
At the time of his arrest, Person County Sheriff Dennis Oakley said in a statement, “He [Lacour] doesn’t seem to care about anyone. He’s a sneaky guy.”
In January 2009, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Lacour reportedly spent nearly 16 years in prison for the Rowe murder The cinemaholic.
Lacour, who is now in his 60s, was released in June 2020. He was reportedly charged with two counts of second-degree violent sex offenses in Orange County in December 2021.
