Danger!The annual Tournament of Champions ended in dramatic fashion with Amy Schneider on Monday prevail against Andrew He in the sixth competition game.

Schneider was the first to win three games against He, who prevailed in two finals. Sam Buttrey, on the other hand, won a game in the best-of-seven series. With Schneider’s win, she walks away with the grand prize of $250,000, while He and Buttrey’s respective runners-up and third-place finishers walk away with $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

“I feel great,” said Schneider after her victory. “At the beginning of the final I had this sudden moment where I saw myself and I was like, ‘I’m on stage in the final of the Tournament of Champions’ and it was crazy. And I won! It is a good feeling.”

Buttrey bet everything and didn’t answer correctly, while both Schneider and He answered correctly. His bet was $2,801 and ended up with $17,001; Schneider bet $13,000 on a final score of $28,600 to win the game and tournament.

The Tournament of Champions final was a rematch between Schneider and He. In the duo’s first meeting of Season 38, Schneider ended He’s five-game streak and started their historic 40-game streak that propelled them to second all-time behind only host Ken Jennings.

“I wanted both [compete against him] and was afraid to face him again,” Schneider said of He. “I knew he was one of the top competitors in the field. He was definitely someone I knew could hit me because he almost did before and he did it a few times here too.”
