Emmy-winner Quinta Brunson adds another accomplishment to her list: she’s playing the legendary Oprah Winfrey in the upcoming Strange: The Al Yankovic Story. Brunson’s name has been cheering for her storied Emmy nominations and win lately Abbott Elementary School. When the star recently spoke to Jimmy Kimmel, Brunson explained why she didn’t ask Oprah’s permission to play her Strange: The Al Yankovic Story.

Little is known about the story arc of Oprah’s character in Strange: The Al Yankovic Story. But Brunson recently posted a photo of himself Twitter. The photo shows Brunson in 1980s clothing and makeup, revealing an uncanny resemblance to the media mogul.
During a post-Emmys interview on Jimmy Kimmel Liveasks Kimmel Brunson if she got Oprah’s permission to play her in the film. “I haven’t [get permission] because I played the parody-satire rules,” she explained. “I just felt like I had a passport.” The actress then seems hesitant, adding, “…I hope…now I’m scared.” Brunson also lamented not being able to meet Oprah in person at the 2022 Emmys.

A five-time Grammy winner, actor, producer and writer, Yankovic is a multifaceted celebrity and the best-selling comedy artist of all time. He’s best known for replacing the lyrics of hit songs with his own super-spoofed parodies. These include “Like a Surgeon” (from Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”) and “Eat It” (a parody of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”).
But really, he’s known for being… weird.
At the height of his popularity in the 1980s, Yankovic became a cultural phenomenon and star magnet. As such the coming Strange: The Al Yankovic Story will have a lot of fun with a lot of really big stars and a whole bunch of weirdos.

Brunson joins in Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe as Yankovic along with Westworlds Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna. Supporting roles come on blondes Julianne Nicholson as Yankovic’s wife Mary and The offices Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento who discovered the artist. Yankovic is also listed among the cast members on IMDb and appears in a cameo as seen in the trailer.
Brunson talks to Kimmel about the film Strange: The Al Yankovic Story is a “super silly movie”. In fact, the film seems poised to live up to Yankovic’s tongue-in-cheek style, billing itself as “an understated true story about the greatest musician of our time.”
Strange: The Al Yankovic Story will be available exclusively on the free, ad-supported Roku channel. Yankovic fans can download the app for their smart TVs and devices and get ready for some crazy stuff starting November 4th, 2022, when Strange: The Al Yankovic Story debuted.
