The internet supports a woman who stays naked in her bedroom to prevent her husband’s best friend from barging in.
Posted on Reddit’s r/AmITeA**hole forum, a woman using the anonymous username u/BetterDay5097 shared her story to get feedback from the “AITA” community. The viral post has over 18,000 upvotes and 3,000 comments.
The original poster (OP) told her story by explaining that her husband’s best friend, “Jacob”, had recently moved in with them. She described him as “quiet” and orderly, unlike her brother-in-law who used to live with them. However, Jacob tends to barge into her and her husband’s bedroom to retrieve something from her husband’s closet – usually an article of clothing or accessory. She admitted that she felt her privacy was being violated, but when she spoke about the issue, both Jacob and her husband ignored her.
One day the OP was extremely tired from work and wanted to get some sleep. She was woken up at around 11pm by Jacob barging in. To prevent him from bursting into the room anymore, she decided to sleep naked on her blanket. When Jacob entered the room and noticed her, he quickly turned and walked out.
“I started hearing a commotion outside, so I got dressed to see what was going on,” she continued. “I was confronted with much shouting, scolding and shame from my husband, who said it was not my turn to embarrass ‘his brother.’ to “such a horrible sight”. I asked what he meant and he yelled at me to stop playing stupid. I said I was frustrated after my privacy was violated and he continued that Jacob just there was to grab something that literally takes seconds.
“then proceeded to how I made him uncomfortable by describing my behavior as ”[slutty]’. The argument got heated and he told me to start wearing decent clothes and act like a lady instead of a lady [slut] for it is his room too and he has already given his permission. I got angry and told him loudly that I will keep sleeping naked on the bed as long as his friend enters the room, then I walked away. He would not stop complaining and complaining that I was making a fool of myself and even suggesting that this was an attempt on my part to get Jacob to move out,” she wrote.
The OP wrote that she and her husband were still arguing about what happened.

- Talk to someone you trust about what you are going through and how you are feeling.
“[Not the a**hole]. But it sounds like you have a husband problem. He should take care that his friend keeps going into the bedroom. And how do you consider it a “terrible sight” to be naked? That’s horrible of him to even say that and side with his friend,” wrote u/cozynite, receiving the top comment from over 34,000 upvotes.
“[Not the a**hole]. There are so many red flags here. Why do men keep moving into your house? How can they not respect your privacy? What guy shares clothes and watches with his boyfriend like this? The adult man yells at a naked woman and runs to her husband and complains. What husband lets a man into his wife’s bedroom and scolds his wife when she complains,” commented u/Skizzybee.
“Your husband has shamed and shamed you for exercising your right to do as you please in your own private space and you are asking if you are AITA? [Not the a**hole] to the moon and back. I tend to think he does it so often that you don’t realize how irreverent and controlling he sounds,” u/jkymochi said.
“[Not the a**hole]. You are fine because you are in the right place. However. If my husband called my naked body a horrible sight it would be the absolute end of my marriage,” exclaimed u/impurehalo.
