Wild video shows angry guest smashing sports car through Chinese hotel lobby: “Are you crazy?”

A disgruntled guest rammed his sports car through the doors of a Chinese hotel and drove wildly through the lobby, leaving a trail of devastation after arguing with staff over his missing laptop.

Several Videos published on social media showed the white car knocking the glass doors of the central Shanghai hotel off its hinges, reversing, and then charging into the lobby, overturning everything in its path. A sign seen in video shows the wild scene that unfolded at the Jinling Purple Mountain Hotel Shanghai.

The car, an open-top convertible, then sped at random through the entrance hall while confused onlookers questioned each other what was going on, with one exclaiming, “He’s freaking out!”

In a video snippetpeople can be seen trying to get the driver out of the crashed vehicle before the car reverses and speeds through the lobby, chasing bystanders away.

Local police said the incident took place late Tuesday morning and the driver was a 28-year-old man named Chen, who got into an argument with hotel staff over the loss of his laptop while he was there.

No one was injured in the incident, they said in the statement posted to their Weibo social media account, adding that Chen has been detained pending further investigation.

Hotel staff told AFP the laptop was stolen and found outside the hotel.

The car slammed into another door before appearing to be heading for the exit, only to hit a door frame and come to a stop with its hazard lights flashing.

Bystanders and hotel employees shouted at the driver to get out of the car, banged on it and tried to break a window to get the keys.

“Do you have any idea what you did?” you can hear them scream. “Are you crazy? Are you?”

According to booking.com, Jinling Purple Mountain Hotel Shanghai is a 4-star hotel with “very good” reviews.
