Wilko Johnson dies: Game of Thrones’ Ilyn Payne, cause of death

Musician Wilko Johnson, known to viewers on HBO as Ser Ilyn Payne game of ThronesHe died on November 21st. He was 75 years old.

“This is the announcement we never intended to make, and it is with a very heavy heart that we make this: Wilko Johnson has passed away,” it said a message posted on Johnson’s Twitter account on Wednesday. “He died at home on Monday November 21st. Thank you for respecting the family’s privacy at this very sad time. RIP Wilko Johnson.”

A cause of death was not given. Johnson was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in 2013 but recovered after extensive surgery.

Johnson appeared in four game of Thrones Episodes as Ser Ilyn Payne, a dumb knight who had his tongue removed. Ilyn Payne also executed beloved Ned Stark in Season 1, earning him a spot on Arya Stark’s vengeful death list.

Except for his stint thronesJohnson had a robust musical career, best known as the guitarist for English pub rock band Dr. known to feel good.
