Speak with news week, Erhan Aslan, Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Reading in the UK, argues that social media plays a key role in this Wordles viral spread.

He said: “Word-based puzzles and games have been around for a while and they’re nothing new. What is different or new today is how and where people play games. Before the digital age, word puzzle games, especially crosswords, usually appeared in newspapers and magazines while people were waiting for the bus or train, in the toilet, or just to kill time.

“In today’s digital age, many simple games like many other things Wordl can be played online. I think that Wordl gains its popularity not only from its simple rules but also from its virality on social media platforms as people share/post their results to demonstrate a sense of accomplishment and validation.”

In January 2022, Wordl was bought by The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, though the game is still free-to-play.

To help you solve today’s problems Wordl, news week gave some tips. The answer to today’s riddle will be revealed at the end of this article, so carefully scroll down if you want to find out for yourself.
