World Cup 2022: Saúl Canelo Alvarez warns Argentinian star Lionel Messi about Mexico team’s kit

Doha, Qatar — Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has reprimanded Lionel Messi for not respecting Mexico.

“Did you see messi wipe the floor with our shirt and our flag????” Álvarez tweetedwhich appears to be referring to a video in which Messi appears to be kicking a Mexican jersey lying on the floor in the dressing room during Argentina’s celebrations.

There is no indication that Messi kicked the shirt on purpose but apparently did it accidentally while taking off his boots.

“He better pray to God I don’t find him!!” Álvarez added in another tweet, with a series of angry emojis. “Just as I respect Argentina, he must respect Mexico! I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just the cops Messi drew.”

Argentina defeated Mexico 2-0 in a thrilling Group C match at the World Cup in Qatar on Saturday. Messi scored the opening goal before Enzo Fernández sealed the win late to keep Argentina’s World Cup dream alive after their stunning opening-round loss to Saudi Arabia.

Álvarez, who is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all time after winning world championships in four weight divisions, added an answer to a journalist: “It’s one thing that they (at football) are better than us, it’s another thing to have respect.”

Messi’s former Argentinian teammate Sergio Aguero Álvarez replied on Twitterand said: “Mr Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, you certainly don’t know anything about football and what happens in a dressing room.

“The shirts are always on the ground after the game because of sweat and if you look closely he makes the move to take his shoe off and accidentally hits it.”

Argentina meet Poland in their final group game on Wednesday, while Mexico meet Saudi Arabia as all four Group C sides still have a chance of qualifying for the round of 16.
