Yellowstone could be canceled in Season 5 over Kevin Costner dispute

A major crisis has befallen television’s No. 1 drama.

Paramount Network may pull the plug prematurely yellowstone amid a behind-the-scenes argument with lead man Kevin Costner.

According to our sister haunt Deadline, “the heart of the issue involves … Costner and disagreements over filming schedules,” with the Oscar-winner reportedly wanting to limit himself to just one week of filming for the remaining eight episodes of Season 5, which are slated to air this summer.

Deadline notes that Costner’s shooting schedule was a “source of frustration” for series creator Taylor Sheridan and “causes moral issues with his co-stars, including Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham.

Paramount Network is said to have turned down Costner’s alleged work proposal for just a week, and instead is attempting to launch a new iteration of yellowstone potentially starring Matthew McConaughey and – that’s key – broadcasting against the linear network on Paramount+. As a result OG yellowstone could end this summer with the conclusion of Season 5.

In a statement, a Paramount Network representative said: “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner plays a big role yellowstone and we hope that this will be the case for a long time to come. Thanks to Taylor Sheridan’s brilliant mind, we’re constantly working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent who we would love to work with.”

The yellowstone The franchise currently consists of the Mothership and the Paramount+ prequels 1883 (which will be continued in the form of a spinoff entitled 1883: The Bass-Reeves Story and with David Oyelowo and Dennis Quaid) and 1923 (which was recently renewed for Season 2). In addition, Sheridan is developing limited series sets set at Dutton Ranch in the 1940s and 1960s and 6666 (set at the Four Sixes Ranch, which first debuted on yellowstone).
