Zelensky’s Sobering Christmas Message to Ukraine Describes ‘Loss of Hope’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addresses his country every night with a speech, in which he usually gives an update on the war, whether it’s good or bad. His delivery on Christmas Eve was more somber than optimistic. It discouraged Christmas lights and bells. He said the meals are not warm and there may be a seat or two left at this year’s table.

Zelensky described a loss of love, hope and even himself as the war hits the 10-month mark on Christmas Eve.

He began his speech on a night normally filled with good news, happiness and joy, as one with “bitter aftertaste” and some despair.

“Unfortunately, all the holidays have a bitter aftertaste for us this year. And we can feel the traditional spirit of Christmas differently. Dinner at the family table can not be so tasty and warm. There can be empty chairs around it, ”said Zelenskyj.

“Our houses and streets cannot be so bright. And Christmas bells can not ring so loud and inspirational. By air raid sirens or worse – gunshots and explosions. And all of this together can pose a greater threat. It’s a disappointment. Of the higher powers and their might, of goodness and justice in the world. loss of hope. loss of love. loss of myself…”

Zelenskyy recently returned after a trip in the cloak of darkness to the United States and back home on Wednesday, during which he met with President Joe Biden and urged Congress to continue providing aid to his country. The US approved $1.85 billion in additional aid to Ukraine, which now includes the Patriot air defense system.

The war enters its 305th day at Christmas and Russia has lost more than 101,000 soldiers since its invasion on February 24 this year.

Zelenskyy called Russia the “evil and darkness” that has invaded his country, and he vowed Ukraine will use the “wisdom of God” to overcome it.

“Isn’t that what evil and darkness that have taken up arms against us need in their essence? We resisted them for more than three hundred days and eight years,” said Zelenskyy. “And will we allow them to achieve what they want?

“In this fight we have another powerful and effective weapon. The hammer and sword of our mind and consciousness. The Wisdom of God. courage and bravery. Virtues that lead us to do good and overcome evil.

“Our way is lighted by faith and patience. patience and faith. These are two forces. As it has been said, “He who masters and controls his own mind is better than he who conquers a city.” Endurance Is Not Endure Accept the circumstances. Patience makes sure we don’t let doubt or fear into our mind. It is believing in your own strength.”
